Thanks for this. Yes, I have read the TLB blog right through - it was a challenge to me try to civilise it! Whatever the level of intellect and articulateness of the posters there is no reason for gratuitousness nastiness.

It is hard to get on to Col's blog. You may have to just keep trying, or make him an offer he can't refuse. It took me nine months applying again and again under different names. And he will never reply to emails.

I have great respect for AC. I sense that although she and i are at opposite ends of the spectrum we would get on very well. She writes well and, as you say, has a fine mind.

No, I am not starting a blog. I have this space so people can contact me (as you have).

What happened to Jempud?

FrankM said...

Hey, SCS, I'm no expert on the duck. All I know is what I read in the back logs of the Col's TLB blog.

Read http://tatelabianca.blogspot.com/2007/05/jempud-speaketh-so-sayeth-col.html - my take is that the duck was a 'Free LVH' advocate, Col hates the 'murdering harlot' and they were bound to clash. Plus the duck seemed to wind the Col's logic into a cocked hat which can't have amused our leader overmuch.

What happened? Col booted the duck off the blog. Why? No one knows officially but each blog member (those who care, anyway) will have a view.

Who are you, SCS?

Frank my friend I was very glad to see your return to the Col's blog. It took me quite a while to join as well. I think being the friend of a friend helped me. I am not convinced that all of the stuff that made you take a leave wasn't staged. An alter ego type of thing if you catch my drift. Either way i think it is over at least for a while.

Thanks for the kind words, Techie. I'm guessing you know what a sockpuppet is but if not check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sockpuppet_%28Internet%29.

I was sorry to hear of your family misfortunes - seems you're getting through it your way but it can't have been easy. And it must (very understandably) colour your judgment in many ways.

Glad to count you as a friend.

I may be in danger of appearing an aesthete here, but like the august August I don't have to put up with what I find distasteful. I've been a teacher most of my life and have long disliked bullies who disguise ignorance with aggression.

As a writer I take care with what I compose, go through several drafts and edit heavily. I do this even with blog posts, partly out of respect for those who read my posts (on the TBL and other blogs). I also read and research before writing - that comes from training in both academe and journalism.

Perhaps that's why I find August's posts so depressing - they have no useful content, and the container has no saving grace.

Anyway, I'll chill for a while. August is a sockpuppet - possibly Col's though I'm not completely sure. I'd have to work out what benefits his posts confer, and to whom. Col uses a lot of sockpuppets but his purpose is usually clear.

You seem a nice person, LilMagil - pleased to have met you. I actually hold a Canadian passport (my mum was born in BC) but have never lived there.

And I loved the Python!

Stay in touch

I see you are annoyed once again at the person called August. I was in the group that he so soundly trashes so I understand why he does. I actually got kicked out of their group because I was also in Heaven's group. I kid you not, that was the reason I was given. I am not defending the language, just the point of view. I did like your analogy of moving your family away from an undesirable situation until a later time. I am not one of those people who feel they always have to make a comment about everything. As you have seen I am not an amen, hell yeah type of guy. If I don't have a reply that I think will be of interest to others, I keep it to myself. I can only advise you to hang in there. Skip the posts by people you don't want to read and bring something interesting to the next post. Oh and my two cents worth, go back to the original picture.

1 more thing.. does the spelling for Eighth~Eigth (eight) differ in the U.S. Like neighbour~neighbor, colour~color?...just asking...Your Friend 'Lil.

FrankM said...

Well, Lil, I'm not here to pull ladies but I actually prefer the current one - and I do have a beard right now. The other one was taken a while back though I think I look younger in the earlier (bearded) photo. We'll not talk more about the Cartman pic.

'Eighth' is spelled the same in both US and UK English. You Canadians come half-way between I guess. I do editing work in both varieties (writing for different markets) and sometimes forget which I'm supposed to be using. But most people don't realise anyay, except with weird ones like 'faucet'/'tap'

Doesn't surprise me that August misspelled the nick. S/he is not hot on grammar and spelling and possibly cares less. But then again I doubt August is a writer (not that it matters, anyway).

I spent time in the UK when I was younger (my family came from there) and have friends still. Place has changed a bit - for the worse, I guess.

Take it easy

Hi Frank -
I want to make mention that you nailed it perfectly with your comment regarding Susan Atkins denial of getting released on the Col's Blog today (7/16/08).

The one thing I have always admired about you is your ability to see thing's in a different light than the rest of us - it's as if you have a far deeper understanding of the matter's at hand.

I am still hopefull that at some point in time we can meet in Greenpoint - and knock back a few pint's together...

Have a Great Day !

Hi Frank. I've been reading TLB since 2007 (2006?) and have enjoyed your posts. I decided to contact you after I saw how you defended Sanders against the recent bashing of him on TLB. He is most definitely not a money-grubber, but he's got to make a living like the rest of us. I don't imagine that the book store he had in the village made him a rich man. I saw Ed Sanders at SUNY New Paltz in 2007.

Pics: http://ksand.rackhost.net/album2.php?picdir=2007/041300&backlink=/2007/contents.html&backtext=2007

I am pushing 58 and my world view is now diametrically opposed to that of Mr. Sanders, but I found him to be gentle, charming, and talented. Someone who never dropped the beat torch. He sang cool songs and read poems (one an homage to Ginsburg). He is, after all, a published author. Anyway, thanls for the posts on TLB, you are a voice of reason and civility.

I liked your rhetoric on the TLB blog 300k post.

I also like McGorlick Park [it's my favorite in all nyc/bk], which admittedly is what got my attention.
